If it's not DNS, then your connection is probably being filtered by your ISP or your local network, and you may need a proxy, VPN, or SSH tunnel. Then, under "DNS Servers:" simply enter a couple of IP addresses you can get on or 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 or 8.8.8.8 if you don't mind Google watching every site you visit. Just right-click the NetworkManager applet (at least I'm pretty sure Ubuntu uses NetworkManager) and select "Edit Connections" - then find the connection you use for the internet, select it, click "Edit.", then the "IPv4 Settings" tab (probably, unless you're using IPv6 in which case go there), and set the "Mode" to "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only". If, on the other hand, you get something like this:

Download the latest amd64 and i386 images for PC/Mac at. Open a Terminal and type the command host When you find a site that won't load, do this: Thank you all for your help and interest in my problem! I had removed it earlier, but it somehow still blocked certain sites until I purged it. It ended up being something related to peer guardian. If you ask you ask me for certain specs from a console printout or something, please assume I do not know the command to do so.ĮDIT: I fixed the problem. It's a really frustrating problem, and I'm still a linux noob so I thought some of the gurus here could help me.
#Ubuntu 14.04.2 lts update#
You may only want to update your system, that is all. Current users do NOT need to reinstall anything. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT For NEW installations, you can download from here. Get Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2 First of all, kindly do read the release notes. Please don't suggest I call my ISP or reset router, I've tried the latter and as I said, the pages open fine on any other OS/device. Everything else should be the same as 14.04 LTS. Completely vanilla build.įrom what little I have gathered, it sounds like a DNS problem. I am not running any firewalls, or peer blocking software. It's as if I am not even connected to the internet for those sites.

For what it's worth, it says "unable to connect" in firefox, and view page source returns the same.
#Ubuntu 14.04.2 lts android#
When I say certain, it really is a good amount of sites, I would say 1 in 5 unique pages will not open, despite being opened on my android phone and windows machine. I've scoured google, reddit, ubuntu forums, and I cannot seem to find an answer although some people seem to ask similar questions and get crickets.Ĭertain web pages will not load regardless of what vanilla browser is used.
